Gx Insight

 About Gx Originals

This site presents many years of artistic development and is designed with exploration and discovery in mind. Each piece has been digitally sculpted and intentionally untitled, except for their collection reference code, to allow the audience to have an unintrusive experience when viewing each piece. In a society where so much of how we interpret and view creative content is dependent on the nuances of context as much as individual points of view, I am drawn to the notion of allowing something to be completely interpreted by the viewer without the intervention of the “story’’ or ‘’journey” of the work. Rather than dictating that experience, my approach acknowledges that anything can be seen as beautiful, interesting, unappealing, nonsensical, or any other adjective it conveys to the viewer, as it depends on the person and their ‘position of vision’. Once a piece is presented, it will naturally be visually dissected, quantified and qualified, and I enjoy the concept of a further collaborative experience with the audience, as they see them. With that said, I also appreciate that there will always be those keener to understand an artist and the creative process behind their works, and it's for those who wish to do so that I offer some additional insights below.

About the Artworks & Collections

The Gx Collections are created intuitively from a mind that I consider to be ‘blessed’ with the condition of Aphantasia (a.k.a. Mind Blindness), which is a phenomenon that affects the conscious mind’s ability to form a mental visual image, meaning that, in terms of artistic process, I have no idea where a piece will end up, as I have no clear internal vision of what I want to create when I begin. Though each piece begins differently, the essence of my process is to digitally sculpt colour and form until I feel it's time to stop. I then create or curate a collection for each piece to live within.

Gx - Anatomy of an Artwork

A visual study of the digital progression of a piece of artwork, from conception to collection, can be seen here - Gx - Anatomy of an Artwork.

Gx Digital to Physical Method

Digital to physical has always been the ambition for each piece I create. One of the advantages of creating works digitally, as opposed to more traditional methods, is the ability to explore the best visual experience for the future physical pieces, rather than defaulting to a predefined format. As part of this process, I have explored several different printing methods to complement each digital creation and develop a signature physical aesthetic for them. More insight into current printing methods can be found here - Gx-LP’s- Luxe Prints.

About Gx

London born and based…with an affinity for anonymity.

No formal education to speak of, mainly self-taught, but always progressing and learning.

It’s my belief, visual art in any form should entice the eye, provoke a thought, or ignite one’s soul...if not all three!

I’ve never felt the necessity to offer any deep insight into what any of the artworks I create says in any introspective or existential fashion, nor do I consider them to have any deep social or political meaning, I’ve never endeavoured to create works that reference such matters, as I feel they are topics best left to those that have a more educated passion for referencing. Although, if you do see such references in the artworks presented in their original digital or future physical forms, then that’s just fine by me and I’m always interested in hearing such insights, so please feel free to reach out via the contact form below on this or any other question or critiques you may have.
